Compania Națională Administrația Canalelor Navigabile SA (CNACN) was set up in accordance with Government Decision no 519/24 August 1998, with subsequent amendments, on the basis of the former Regia Autonomă “Administrația Canalelor Navigabile” Constanta.
Regia Autonomă “Administrația Canalelor Navigabile” Constanța was set up in 1979 as a state-owned company under the name Administrația Canalul Dunare – Marea Neagră. After the commissioning of the Danube – Black Sea Canal, in 1984, the company also took over the monitoring of the construction of Poarta Albă – Midia – Năvodari Canal, commissioned in 1987.
